In order to sustain the meaningful role in local development of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) in Region XII using Social Networks and online communication, the Sarangani Province Empowerment and Community Transformation Forum, Inc. (SPECTRUM) facilitated a Content Communications and Social Media Workshop on November 16-17, 2017, inviting participants from its member-organizations. The activity was intended to equip the participants the knowledge and capability necessary to create relevant, impactful and efficient content using the right social media and communication tools.

There were at least 22 project/communication officers from Mahintana Foundation, Inc., Dole Philippines, Inc., KPS-Seed, Conrado & Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, OND Hesed Foundation, Sta. Cruz Multi-Purpose Cooperative, DANA Foundation, and RD Foundation, Inc. who attended the 2-day training and received important information about the responsible use of Social Media on sharing content.

One of the speakers, Ms. Cecile Dominguez, CEO of Evident Communications, explained that utilizing the full potential of social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) offers a wide range of opportunities to create partnerships, provided if used properly. She also shared social media concepts and tips on how to make innovative use of social media tools effectively.  Together with her were Mr. Ian Lim, Content Director, whose expertise is into creating engaging content by making it simple, concrete and credible; and Mr. Daniel Estopia, Art Director, who explained in detail the various multimedia platforms (e.g. photos, illustrations, videos, infographics, memes, animations) and the importance of creating a Social Media moodboard to make posts distinct from others.

The training was also tailored with interactive and informative workshops and hands-on practical exercises.  The participants gained valuable insights about effective communications and understood the need to explore more the social media world, not only as a medium for sharing photos with friends and families but to improve the communication strategy and enhance the institutional image as well as support and advance an organization’s  advocacy and mission.
