PostHeaderIcon AAS Project distributes books from READ Philippines

A pupil of Kinilis Elementary School happily helps carry the treasure of books

In November 2011, READ Philippines, formerly known as MOVE ON Philippines, distributed through Mahintana 226 primary Science and Reading books in the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato through the Adopt-a-School (AAS) Project of Mahintana and Dole Philippines, Inc.

A total of 2,404 pupils and 36 teachers of Bales Elementary School (ES) in Maasim, Lugan ES in T’boli, and Kinilis ES in Polomolok benefitted from this endeavor. The books featured an improved method of learning for school children and teaching strategies for teachers. Reading books include cassette tapes, providing the ideal medium of teaching small children on proper articulation of words while the Teacher’s Guide provide supplementary teaching strategies to teachers for easy comprehension of school children.

Mahintana Foundation, Inc., in partnership with Dole Philippines, Inc., conducted a Turn-over Ceremony of 720 Supplemental Textbooks on English, Math, and Science benefitting 240 Grade 5 pupils of New Dumangas Elementary School (ES) and Kyumad Integrated School (IS) last August 8 and 15, 2011, respectively.

PostHeaderIcon Mahintana brings books to Barangay Ned

Initiated in year 2000, the Adopt-a-School Project aims to enhance the pupils’ academic performance among Dole Philippines, Inc.’s six (6) adopted public elementary schools. To achieve this objective, the project has distributed supplemental textbooks/reading and reference materials; conducted Teachers’ Training and monitoring and evaluation in partnership with Dole Philippines School; and provided infrastructure support. The project forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), implemented in partnership with Mahintana, the Rotary Club International, and READ Philippines (formerly MOVE ON Philippines).

PostHeaderIcon Tambayayong GenSan: Batang Himsog Project Year-End Results

The “Tambayayong Gensan: Batang Himsog” Project’s 2nd year of implementation revealed that 610 of the total 714 target Grades I and II pupils from 20 public elementary schools in General Santos City  (85.4%) had improved their nutrition status from below normal to normal at the end of S.Y. 2009-2010.  These children were provided with nutritious ‘hot meals’ composed of a variety and combination of vegetables, fish, chicken, and  meat, prepared using the monthly feeding cycle template as its guide.  These foods were prepared by the school children’s parents for a  complete duration of 120 feeding days, completed in 9 months. PostHeaderIcon Adopt-A-School Project turns-over 345 Supplemental Textbooks to New Dumangas and Desawo Elementary Schools

Last July 28, 2009, the “Adopt-A-School” Project of Mahintana     Foundation, Inc. supported by Dole Philippines, Inc. distributed       345 Supplemental Textbooks in Math, Science and English to New Dumangas and Desawo Elementary School.  The activity was attended by the Department of Education, Division of South Cotabato.

During the ceremony,Dr. Fe Sepaya, the  “Adopt-A-School” coordinator, inspired the pupils of the two schools. She also challenged the parents of the elementary schoolchildren when she said, “the pupils who are our future leaders need our assistance today as parents. Hence, if we need to learn how to read, we also have to study with the pupils.” Atty. Melquiades L. Hernandez, III, the Director of the Division of Human Resources of Dole Philippines expressed Dole’s vision for its community. According to him, “Dole Philippines can only be considered as a successful company if its community can also become what they’ve dreamed it to be.”

The turnover ceremony in Desawo was followed by a Standard Based Assessment (SBA) Test with Dole Philippines School and an Information and Education Campaign (IEC) on “Points to Good Health” with the District Nurses from the DepEd District of Tboli.
