Mahintana Foundation, Inc., in partnership with Dole Philippines, Inc., conducted a Turn-over Ceremony of 720 Supplemental Textbooks on English, Math, and Science benefitting 240 Grade 5 pupils of New Dumangas Elementary School (ES) and Kyumad Integrated School (IS) last August 8 and 15, 2011, respectively.

PostHeaderIcon Mahintana Conducts Tree Planting and Symposium on Climate Change and Disaster Risks

Subsequent to Bloodletting 2011, Mahintana conducted a Tree Planting activity and Symposium on Climate Change and Disaster Risks last August 10, 2011, in collaboration with Dole Philippines, Inc., Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) through Tropical Institute for Climate Studies (TropICS), Environmental Management Bureau-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and LGU Polomolok, supported by Sarangani Resources Corporation and Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc.

High school students of Polomolok carry Afus bamboo and assorted fruit tree seedlings towards the designated planting areas along Maria Rosa Creek

The endeavor aims to complement and intensify the environmental programs implemented by the government and other development actors, increase the communities’ awareness on the aggravating effects brought about by the erratic climate pattern and escalating climate change, and urge participants to take proactive roles towards sustaining said initiated interventions.

Subsequent to the successful KBPK Year V province-wide launch, Mahintana facilitated the Municipal Launches in Tupi, Tantangan, Lake Sebu, T’boli, and Banga, in coordination with the respective Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAO) and Nutrition Aides. These launches were conducted in July, highlighting the Nutrition month celebration.

Reps. from the MLGUs of South Cotabato, Dole Philippines, Inc., Mahintana Foundation, Inc., partner-Cooperatives, and Civic Organizations during the KBPK Year V Provincial Launch

220 participants representing the MLGUs of South Cotabato, Dole Philippines, Inc., partner-Cooperatives, Civic Organizations, and beneficiaries took part in the Provincial Launch of Kapit Bisig Para sa Kabataan (KBPK) Year V, last May 19, 2011 at Brgy. Cannery Nursery, Asuncion, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The project aims to develop a community with well-nourished children, where interventions will focus on 3 identified sustainability mechanisms namely: Health Education of mothers through the conduct of “Pabasa sa Nutrisyon;” Backyard Gardening focused on establishing home and community-based food production; and identification of Livelihood project.

PostHeaderIcon Barangay Justice for Peace Project Spearheads Barangay Upper Sepaka Peace Event

The Barangay Justice for Peace (BJP) Project is a 2-year project initiated in year 2009, funded by the USAID through the Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF). Mahintana was tapped by GRF, in close coordination with South Cotabato’s Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Legal Office, to implement the project in the province, covering 10 municipalities and one (1) city. The project aims to promote community peace in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and non-ARMM communities by integrating community-based alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in local level planning and implementation, mobilizing and training a total of 3,000 peace advocates or who are popularly known as Barangay Justice Advocates (BJA).

PostHeaderIcon Mahintana brings books to Barangay Ned

Initiated in year 2000, the Adopt-a-School Project aims to enhance the pupils’ academic performance among Dole Philippines, Inc.’s six (6) adopted public elementary schools. To achieve this objective, the project has distributed supplemental textbooks/reading and reference materials; conducted Teachers’ Training and monitoring and evaluation in partnership with Dole Philippines School; and provided infrastructure support. The project forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), implemented in partnership with Mahintana, the Rotary Club International, and READ Philippines (formerly MOVE ON Philippines).

In December 4-5, 2010, Dole Philippines, Inc., in partnership with Mahintana Foundation, Inc., held its 2nd ‘Alay Gabay para sa Maginhawang Buhay’ Invitational Golf Tournament at Kalsangi Golf Course, Kalsangi, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The event, dubbed as “Dole Philippines, Inc. Annual Business Partners’ Invitational Golf Tournament,” was participated by the business partners of the company. The tournament aimed to continue to deliver services to the most neglected sector of the community, the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), by raising funds in support to the wheelchair project. One of the highlights of the Foundation’s Anniversary activities was the PALO para sa Bantay-Gubat, a 2-day golf tournament held last August 7-8, 2010 at the Kalsangi Golf Course, Polomolok, South Cotabato.  PALO is a project initiated 5 years ago by Mahintana’s Board of Trustees (BOT).  This year’s golf tournament was chaired by Eng’r. Carlos S. Baldostamon, Jr., together with Mr. Elvis J. Dy, Dr. Jorge U. Calderon, Jr., and Mr. Pablo L. Sunglao as members.  This is in support of the mobilization of the Deputized Environment and Natural Resources Officers (DENROs) or the Mt. Matutum’s Bantay-Gubat. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon Tambayayong GenSan: Batang Himsog Project Year-End Results

The “Tambayayong Gensan: Batang Himsog” Project’s 2nd year of implementation revealed that 610 of the total 714 target Grades I and II pupils from 20 public elementary schools in General Santos City  (85.4%) had improved their nutrition status from below normal to normal at the end of S.Y. 2009-2010.  These children were provided with nutritious ‘hot meals’ composed of a variety and combination of vegetables, fish, chicken, and  meat, prepared using the monthly feeding cycle template as its guide.  These foods were prepared by the school children’s parents for a  complete duration of 120 feeding days, completed in 9 months. PostHeaderIcon Polomolok STI/HIV/AIDS Council joins the Peer Counselors and Facilitators’ Training

In its endeavor to inform and educate the youth and the general public on STI/HIV/AIDS, Polomolok STI/HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Council, in partnership with Mahintana Foundation, Inc. (MFI), Dole Philippines, Inc., and the Reproductive Health Youth Based (RHUB), conducted the Peer Counselors and Facilitators’ Training last April 26-28, 2010 at Sunrise Resort, Lake Seloton, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.  This activity aims to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on Adolescent Reproductive Health and enable them to become effective peer counselors in their school and community.  Four (4) teachers from Polomolok National High School in Cannery, who are also members of RHUB, served as Resource Speakers for the 3-day training.  The training was attended by three (3) Guidance Counselors and 27 high school students coming from three (3) public national high schools namely, Polomolok National High School, Poblacion Polomolok National High School, and Bentung-Sulit National High School.  These trained peer counselors will become advocates of the youth and other students towards being responsible adolescents on Reproductive Health, disseminating information on topics such as the harmful effects of the practice of pre-marital sex with either single or multiple partners, drug abuse leading to early teenage and unwanted pregnancy, drug addiction, abortion, and possible transmission of STI/HIV/AIDS.  The training was a follow-through of the Peer Educator’s Training conducted to the same participants last May 2009 at Durian Garden, Atbp.
