Mahintana Conducts Tree Planting and Symposium on Climate Change and Disaster Risks
Subsequent to Bloodletting 2011, Mahintana conducted a Tree Planting activity and Symposium on Climate Change and Disaster Risks last August 10, 2011, in collaboration with Dole Philippines, Inc., Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) through Tropical Institute for Climate Studies (TropICS), Environmental Management Bureau-Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and LGU Polomolok, supported by Sarangani Resources Corporation and Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc.

The endeavor aims to complement and intensify the environmental programs implemented by the government and other development actors, increase the communities’ awareness on the aggravating effects brought about by the erratic climate pattern and escalating climate change, and urge participants to take proactive roles towards sustaining said initiated interventions.
LWR helps Davao flood victims through Mahintana

In July 8 and 9, 2011, 24 staff of Mahintana Foundation, Inc. participated in the packing and distribution of relief goods for Davao’s flash flood victims at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish (OLLP), Matina Aplaya, Davao City. The initiative was implemented in partnership with the OLLP of Bangkal, Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc., and the Lutheran Church of Matina Aplaya, in close coordination with the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) of Davao.
Mahintana trains members of BAWASA and the barangay council
Mahintana Foundation, Inc. (MFI), conducted a 2-day Project Management and Facilities Repair & Maintenance Training for Barangay Water and Sanitation Association (BAWASA) last January 30-31, 2011 at the Sun City Suites, General Santos City. A total of 25 beneficiaries from Barangays Sumbakil, Datal Bob, and Landan participated in the activity, comprising of BAWASA’s Board of Directors and Chairmen as well as Council members of the said barangays. The water system project, funded by the Lutheran World Relief (LWR), aims to establish and increase the three (3) barangays’ access to potable water. The training, on the other hand, seeks to educate beneficiaries on the basics of the water system including its design, construction, operation, repair and maintenance, and management.
SMPC undergoes Teambuilding and Annual Planning for 2010
The Sumbakil Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMPC) underwent an Annual Planning and Team-building Workshop last May 4-6, 2010 at Dolores Farm Resort, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The said activity was participated by 15 participants, of which 10 belong to the management staff and five (5) are members of the Board of Directors. The workshop was designed to help the SMPC officers and management staff in its planning and formulation of SMPC Annual Plan for 2010-2012. The planning activity was done by reviewing and formulating strategies to further improve the operations and financial set-up of the organization. The activity has also provided time to both the coop officers and management staff to reflect on their individual and organizational values as a person and as a cooperative while they strive to realize what they have planned. 70 farmers attend vermicomposting training

A total of 70 farmers attended the training on vermicomposting facilitated by Mahintana Foundation, Inc. (MFI) last December 22, 2009 held at Barangay Hall of Simbo, in the municipality of Tupi, South Cotabato.
Mendaton Salipoden, Sarodin Kakim, and Abdawi Lepga – all vermicomposting practitioners of nearby barangays of Sumbakil and Koronadal Proper, served as resource persons during the said training.
LWR-PEACE Project spearheads BDP Formulation at Datalbob
The PEACE project together with the Datalbob Brgy. Council and members of the community in coordination with the Sumbakil Multi-Purpose Cooperative & Mahintana Foundation Inc. joined hands in formulating its first Barangay Development Plan (BDP). Their aim was for the enhancement of community participation in local governance and development process. A total of 123 participants in attendance composed of the members of the barangay council, sitio leaders, women’s group, tribal leaders, education sector, BNS, and BHWs took part in the 3-day workshop held last September 28-30, 2009.
Highlights of the workshop were the creation of vision statement “Maunlad na Barangay na binubuo ng masayang Pamilya na nagkakaisa sa Layunin at Mithiin” and mission statement “Linangin at paunlarin ang kabuhayan, kultura, kapaligiran, malusog na pangangatawan para sa kinabukasan natin at ng susunod na henerasyon” as stated in Tagalog d
ialect. The 5-year Barangay Development Plan (BDP) for 2010-2014 was also formulated through the effort of the participants and resource person. Representative coming from PPDO shared the Provincial Development Thrust of South Cotabato to the community where they can anchor their direction in formulating the BDP.
