Tambayayong GenSan: Batang Himsog Project Year-End Results
The “Tambayayong Gensan: Batang Himsog” Project’s 2nd year of implementation revealed that 610 of the total 714 target Grades I and II pupils from 20 public elementary schools in General Santos City (85.4%) had improved their nutrition status from below normal to normal at the end of S.Y. 2009-2010. These children were provided with nutritious ‘hot meals’ composed of a variety and combination of vegetables, fish, chicken, and meat, prepared using the monthly feeding cycle template as its guide. “Tambayayong Gensan: Batang Himsog” Project launches Supplemental Feeding Program at Banisil Elementary School

Various multi stakeholders from General Santos City gathered last July 20, 2009 at Banisil Elementary School for the launching of “Tambayayong Gensan: Batang Himsog “ Project’s Supplemental feeding program. The activity was attended by representatives from the LGU, PO, NGO, Dole Philippines, Inc. , DepEd XII, Brokenshire College Socksargen, CFTEMPCO, Kiwanis Club of GenSan, Salinas Foods,Rotary International Club of Midtown General Santos City, Rotary Clubof General Santos City, NDDU and Mahintana Foundation, Inc.
Atty. Melquiades Hernandez, III, the Director of the Human Resource Division of Dole Philippines congratulated the partners for the success of the project. Furthermore, he emphasized that education should be the main priority and there is a need to educate the children as they will soon become the future leaders of the country. In addition, Mr. Diosdado Ablandio, a representative from DepEd Region XII expressed his gratitude for the reason that the project has inspired a lot of partners to work and to mandate the children to educate.
An IEC on the use of FIDEL salt among the parents and the teachers was also conducted by Kiwanis Club of GenSan and Salinas Foods. After which, they distributed the bags of iodized salt to the recipient students of the abovementioned school.
