The Ridge-to-Reef (R2R) program facilitated the learning visit of the 11 staff of Interface Development Interventions (IDIS) Inc., together with their Executive Director Ms. Chinkee P. Golle, and four (4) Bantay Bukid members on February 15, 2018 at the project areas of R2R.
Program Coordinator Ms. Ella Mae Babao presented a brief orientation on what is Mahintana and R2R Program prior to the field visit. During the orientation, the IDIS also shared their different experiences and interventions in the watershed rehabilitation in Davao City. Following the orientation, Mahintana President and CEO Mr. Martiniano Magdolot received a Certificate of Appreciation from IDIS as their token of gratitude. The group toured the R2R project areas starting from Cannery community nursery where they had an orientation on bamboo propagation using branch-cutting method then they toured the Gully 109C/110B where they are oriented on the earthmatting and napier planting technology.
Afterwards, they visited the REVIVE project in Barangay Rubber where the 4-year-old bamboo forest is located followed by the tour at the Indigenous Bamboo Dike at Barangay Magsaysay and Napier planting to see and learn some of the Ridge-to Reef program approaches in riverbank vegetation enhancement and rehabilitation. Aside from the R2R areas, the group also visited the Nutripan Bakeshoppe and Chairs-for-Trees fabrication area.
The activity served as an opportunity for both organizations to obtain extensive and varied opportunities towards sustainable environmental protection and initiatives.
