RESOURCEGov Team monitors the LITS in SP GenSan

RESOURCEGov 2 Project Manager Mr. Roel Ian P. Blanker together with Leonardo M. Rendon, former Project Officer visited the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of General Santos City to conduct courtesy visit to the new LITS in-charge and troubleshoot their Legislative Information Tracking System (LITS) on July 5, 2019.  The team met with Mr. Art Amoncio, the Computer Programmer of the office who is also the new staff in-charge of LITS. After a round of introduction, the group discussed about the malfunction of the LITS and deduced the cause of the problem. Initially, some staff were complaining that they can no longer encode in the system after the Security Firewall Software of the network’s main server has expired and uninstalled. During the troubleshooting, Mr. Blanker checked the error and it showed that the users of the system cannot connect to the database, however, the computers connected to the network can actually connect to each other and also can also detect the database. After an hour of checking the computer services, re-running of LITS installation, and reviewing the network configuration, the group found out that the issue was the Windows Firewall. Since the Server’s Firewall was uninstalled, the computers automatically shifted to its default Firewall software which blocks connections to the LITS. When the team added the LITS connection port as authorized and allowed in the firewall, all the computers using LITS have detected the database. The LITS staff were able to use the system again after being down for a few days.

Firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. It typically establishes a barrier between a trusted internal network and untrusted external network, such as the Internet.
