Mahintana Foundation, Inc. through
its Ridge-to-Reef (R2R) Program conducted
a monitoring for the adopted area of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on
Laws-General Santos City (SP-Gensan) and BLGU-Buayan at Prk. Minanga, Brgy. Buayan, General Santos City on May 29, 2020.
Out of the planted 2,000 mangrove
hills, at least 1,000 or 50% survived. Mortalities were caused by algae
entanglement and strong wave action. It was observed that the constructed drift
materials barrier needed to be repaired and the installed signage to be
replaced.

the 2020 Month of the Ocean Culmination themed “Free the Seas from Marine
Debris” with an unveiling ceremony of the prohibition billboard in partnership
with City Environment and Natural Resources Office – General Santos City (CENRO-GSC) and BLGU –
Buayan at Prk. Minanga, Brgy.

The
activity aims to promote awareness and the protection of the coastal and marine
resources in Brgy. Buayan. Hon. Rogelio Solis, Punong Barangay of BLGU-Buayan,
Mr. Allan Marcilla, EnP, CENR Officer-GSC, Ms. Joy Ologuin, Protected Areas
Superintendent – Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (PASu-SBPS) encouraged the Minanga
community and the people’s organizations to be frontliners in preserving and
protecting the marine resources against illegal activities. The billboard informs
the public on P.D. 705/E.O. 2277/P.D. 7161, and R.A. 11038 otherwise known as the
Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System (ENIPAS) Law and on the
City Ordinance No. 43, Series of 2018 “An Ordinance Establishing the Datu
Sharif Zainal Abedin Mangrove Eco-Tourism Zone, Situated in Barangays of Bula,
Baluan, Buayan All of this City, Prescribing Guidelines for its implementation
and for other purposes”.
May 1, 2020 – the AMCOOP Foundation donated 60 lunch packs to the relief operations volunteers on Labor Day. AMCOOP thanked Mahintana for the opportunity to feed the unsung heroes of Polomolok.
