R2R joins coordinative meeting on Silway River Ecopark Project

During the presentation of the developmental approaches by participating government agencies and MFI as basis on the implementation of Silway River Ecopark Project

Hon. Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles, Representative of the 1st District of South Cotabato and General Santos City, requested Mahintana Foundation, Inc, (MFI) through the Ridge-to-Reef (R2R) Program to participate in the coordinative meeting on the proposed Silway River Ecopark Project on February 24, 2021.

Silway River Ecopark Project aims to rehabilitate and develop the Silway riverbank to protect its constituents living in the nearby coastal area from the onslaught of storm surges. The project covers portion of Brgy. Dadiangas West and Labangal facing the coast of Sarangani Bay turning it into an esplanade and eco-tourism park. The final stage of the preparation pf its master plan and the inventory and consultation with the residents living in the aforesaid danger zones are underway.

Since the project is still on its developing stage and need to find appropriate holistic approaches for the project’s implementation, Mahintana presented its best practices on environmental protection and conservation measures, the Silway-Klinan River Watershed to Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SKRW-SBPS) Ridge-to-Reef (R2R) Program as a reference for Silway River Ecopark Project.

Notable attendees include Mr. Radzak Sinarimbo (PENRO-South Cotabato), Ms. Ma. Elvira Lumayag (DENR-CENRO Gensan), EnP. Allan Marcilla, MSDS (City ENRO-Gensan), Mr. Ariel Austin Acosta (Representative of DENR-MGB XII), Engr. Emerald Signar (City Engineer’s Office – Gensan).

As a result of the meeting, there will be a harmonization of development approaches within Silway River of both LGU and private sector, creation of the task force or committee for Silway River Ecopark Project, and formulation of the Silway River Development Master Plan.
