HEALTH Plus Project conducts Values Orientation on Leadership and Teamwork

To continually support the development of its staff, HEALTH Plus Project conducted Values Orientation on Leadership and Teamwork and PPF & HPSiS Team Meeting on November 6-7, 2018 at hacienda Don Juan, Brgy. Lago, Glan, Sarangani. This activity aims to provide updates to the team on the accomplishments of HPSiS from January to October 2018, document gaps and challenges on the implementation of HEALTH Plus. It also aims to enhance knowledge and skills on leadership, influence and teamwork leading to an improved performance between and among PPF and HPSiS staff.  It was attended by 18 participants from Mahintana management, PPF core staff and team leaders of HPSiS outlets in the Provinces of South Cotabato and Sarangani and City of General Santos.

Ms. Luzviminda T. Herezo, the invited resource speaker, talked about emotional intelligence and work excellence, leadership and management with an application through structured learning exercises and problem solving.  Individual exercises include:  (1) Leadership Awareness Inventory to identify and differentiate their function as a leader or manager; 2) Solidarity and Commitment Exercise through an object that defines one’s personality; and (3) Commitment renewal as a member of the HEALTH Plus team.

Mahintana visits Dole Korea

Mahintana President & CEO Mr. Martiniano L. Magdolot, Admin & Finance Ms. Liza D. Hora, Operations Manager Mr. Jobe C. Tubigon and South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes met with the top management of Dole Korea on Nov. 7, 2018. During the meeting, the management presented the products and that the Philippines is the leading country exporter of the Dole products in South Korea. Also. Dole Korea Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus on education and the environment. Gov. Fuentes committed to support infrastructure projects in Region 12 that will help Dole Philippines, Inc. continue its service to export world-class Dole products.

The team visited few of South Korea tourism sites to benchmark these tourism spots.

Mahintana joins the OGP Asia Pacific Regional Meeting

Mahintana Operations Manager Mr. Jobe C. Tubigon, together with the President & CEO Mr. Martiniano L. Magdolot and Admin & Finance Ms. Liza D. Hora, attended the Open Government Partnership (OGP)  Asia Pacific Regional Meeting on Nov. 5-6, 2018 at The Westin Chosun, Seoul, South Korea. The team was with the South Cotabato District I Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes to represent the Philippines on the synergy between the local government and CSOs in implementing OGP programs.

The delegates shared the implementation of programs, outcomes and challenges during the roundtable discussions on Civil Society Day. During the Open Ceremony, one of the speaker was Gov. Fuentes who shared the local governance initiatives of the province and the OGP commitments such as open legislation, open monitoring, open contracting, etc. On one of the breakout sessions, Mr. Tubigon spoke of Legislative Information Tracking Systems (LITS) as CSO initiative and a tool for open legislation. He said that LITS in advancing open data and improving legislative openness and performance in local governments.

RESOURCEGov Team trains the South Cotabato PPMC on ODK-Based Project Monitoring

RESOURCEGov 2 Project Manager Mr. Roel Ian P. Blanker was invited by South Cotabato Provincial Project Monitoring Committee (PPMC) for the Open Data Kit (ODK) Training Workshop on October 29-30, 2018 at Cinco Niñas, Koronadal City. Mahintana supports the Open Monitoring and Open Legislation Commitments of the Open Government Program (OGP). It was attended by 50 participants (Male 26, Female 24) of the different provincial offices part of the PPMC.

The first day was composed of the following activities: creation of Kobotoolbox account per department, discussion on the form generation, making their participants’ own forms, and presentation of generated forms.

On the 2nd day, the participants used their ODK forms for the mock monitoring of two on-going projects namely the: 1) Alteration of the Grandstand and Construction of Control Tower in the South Cotabato Sports Complex; and 2) the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CGMP) funded road construction in Brgy. Cabuling, Tantangan, South Cotabato. After the mock monitoring, the participants presented their results and learnings. The participants also shared their optimism that the ODK system will be of great help to them in mapping and monitoring.

 

Mahintana treks Kinilis with CTNI Staff

Mahintana Ms. Ella Mae Babao spearheads the Kinilis Trekking on October 27, 2018 with Mr. Fred Fredeluces of Greentropics Coffee Enterprise, Mr. Boyet Buan of Matutum Coffee Producers Association and CTNi staff Mr. Tabilla and Mr. Hilot. The CTNi staff came to assess the plantation. One of the recommendations is the possibility of in situ colning of coffee in Mr. Buan’s area.

R2R Team undergoes Macrosomatic Cloning Training

  

R2R Team participated in the Claveria Tree Nursery, Inc. (CTNi) Macrosomatic Cloning Training conducted for Dole Philippines Inc’s Research Department on October 24-26, 2018 at Mahintana Conference Room and Dole Agri Research Center, Poblacion, Polomolok South Cotabato. This training is a preparatory activity on the Corporate and Community Investment on Tree and Environment – Growing Trees for Pallets Program of the company. It was attended by 17 participants from organizations and institutions namely: Dole Agri Research (6), Cannery Community Nursery (5), Matutum Coffee Producers Association (2), Greentropics Coffee Enterprise (1), Dole Community Relations (1) and Mahintana Foundation, Inc. (2). The resource speakers from CTNi were Forester Ebenezer A. Tabilla, Nursery head and Agriculturist Rex C. Hilot, Extension Forester. This training aims to capacitate the Research Department of the company and several community partners on the techniques and process of Macrosomatic Cloning.

In Macrosomatic Cloning, cuttings (meristems) are obtained from a good mother tree and enhanced to produce more tissues, which further differentiate themselves and become an individual plant or clone of the mother tree. Thus, this will accelerate the propagation of endemic species of trees in the area.

RESOURCEGov 2 conducts its Annual Review and Planning Workshop

 

The RESOURCEGov Phase 2 Project conducted its 1st Annual Review & Planning Workshop on October 23-24, 2018 at Go Hotels, J.P. Laurel Ave., Lanang, Davao City. The 87 (Male 45, Female 42) attendees were composed of EU Delegates, DILG partners, representatives of the 14 LGU beneficiaries, CSO federation presidents, EU partners in Mindanao, the project team, and the media.

Project Coordinators Mr. Jobe “Obet” C. Tubigon and Ms. Raizsa Mae “Bai” Anayatin, the facilitators, acknowledged the participants per province.  President & CEO and Project Director Mr. Martiniano “Dodoy” L. Magdolot gave the opening remarks, thanking and welcoming the participants for coming. Partners from EU Delegation to the Philippines Ms. Caroline Maningo, Dole Philippines Inc. representative Atty. Melquiades Hernandez, MINCODE BOT Chair Ms. Andrea Maria Patricia Sarenas, DILG 11 Compostela Valley Provincial Director Mr. Noel Duarte, and DILG 12 Cotabato Provincial Director Mr. Ali Abdullah gave their messages of gratitude, congratulations, and support to the project. Project Manager Mr. Roel Ian P. Blanker presented the project work plan, targets and accomplishments for November 2017 to September 2018. Questions regarding the project operations were welcomed. Then, Project Admin and Finance Officer Ms. Wilma C. Jumilla presented financial updates. She also shared the challenges experienced by the team during implementation and asked the EU delegates if the recommendations given were right. Ms. Divina Somera, EU Finance Manager, addressed some of the concerns.  In the afternoon, 7 out of 14 LGUs were given task to present their learnings and challenges in the project implementation based on specific interventions.

 After the LGU testimonials, the participants were grouped according to LGUs for the planning workshop. The LGU representatives were given time to think of activities to be conducted aligned with the interventions and its respective budget. The project officers and finance team guided the LGU partners in their budgeting. 

On the 2nd day, a representative per province presented the proposed activities for Years 2 and 3. Another open forum was conducted. Recommendations were given and agreed. Ms. Maningo appreciated the LGUs’ consciousness of the budget. Mr. Blanker shared the body the key agreements and next steps. He emphasized that the activities planned in the workshop are just indicative and are still subject for review and approval. Kasilak Development Foundation Inc. Executive Director Mr. Joemil S. Montebon gave the synthesis of the 2-day event. Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA) Regional Coordinator Mr. Glenn Bais gave the closing remarks.

SK-Cannery celebrates 6th Youth Summit

In celebration of the 6th Youth Summit and 7th Leadership Camp, Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Cannery Site (SK-Cannery) conducted a tree growing activity at field 102B gully on October 25, 2018. A total of 300 bamboo hills were planted at the mentioned site. The activity was organized by SK-Cannery headed by April Dave Sorioso, SK Chairman, and was participated by 60 youth representatives from Brgy. Cannery, Out of School Youths (OSYs), and youth members of Obed’s House Ministries of General Santos City.

DARBC Celebrates Cooperative Month 2018 with a Tree Growing Activity

In celebration of the Cooperative Month 2018, Dolefil Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DARBC) conducted a tree growing activity at Fields 109ABC gully on October 24, 2018. A total of 1,500 hills of fruit and forest tree were planted at the mentioned sites.

There was a short program before the planting rites which was facilitated by DARBC staff. Mr. Cecilio Balili, Director of DARBC, gave his inspirational message followed by messages of support by  Municipal Cooperative and Development Council (MCDC) Mr. Lory Asilo and Municipal Councilor Nilda B. Almencion of LGU Polomolok. The event was participated by a total of 67 participants from the LGU Polomolok, MCDC, Unified Engineering Works Multi-Purpose Cooperative (UEWMPC), BLGU Cannery, DARBC Clusters, and Mahintana Foundation, Inc. (MFI).
