Mahintana participates in Adopt-Malungon River Launching Activity

Mahintana participated in the Adopt-Malungon River Launching Activity thru Bamboo Growing Project of the Municipality of Malungon at Brgy. Nagpan, Malungon, Sarangani Province on Aug. 15, 2018.  The organization was represented by Operations Manager Mr. Jobe Tubigon, R2R Project Coordinator Ms. Ella Mae Babao, and Project Officer Mr. Luwee Roy Siacor together with Dole Philippines Inc. CRD Supervisor Mr. Reb Shanton Minion. A total of 1,000 hills of afus were planted on the riverside out of 35,000 afus hills target covering 4.8km stretch of river.  

Mahintana was agreed to present the R2R Program during the ABC meeting and a benchmarking activity at R2R project areas scheduled within the year.

Mahintana and SRC lead the Tree Growing and Stone Dike Construction Activities

In celebration of the 41st Anniversary of Mahintana and SRC with the theme “Exploring Possibilities Beyond Boundaries”, a Tree Growing and Stone Dike Construction activity was conducted in the 116A Field Gully at Prk. Paglaum, Bgry. Upper Klinan, Polomolok, South Cotabato. It was attended by around 200 participants including the executives and directors of Dole Philippines, Inc., partner cooperatives, LGU representatives of the municipality and barangays, and SRC and Mahintana staff.

Participants assembled and registered at the Brgy. Cannery Hall grounds before jumping off to the site. The welcome address was given by Mahintana President and CEO Mr. Martiniano L. Magdolot. Mr. Magdolot welcomed the key persons and participants, as well as, acknowledged the support of the stakeholders to the tree growing activity as one of the celebratory activities of Mahintana and SRC. Among those who gave the Message of Support are the following: Dolefil VP and Managing Director Mr. Randolph I. Fleming, Mun. Councilor Mr. Allan Ines, MCDC Chairperson Mr. Lory Asilo, and Cannery Punong Barangay and ABC President Mr. Antonio Octavio.  For the closing remarks, SRC President Mr. Carlos T. Baldostamon, Jr. said that planting trees is a great way to leave a legacy aside from educating the young.

The Ceremonial Tree Growing commenced by a demonstration on how to plant the seedlings by Mr. Baldostamon and R2R Project Officer Mr. Ramon Christopher Manero followed by a dance number depicting the B’laan Tribe planting ritual dance by Landan National High School students. Then, the participants were given fruit and forest tree seedlings and started planting. The VIPs were invited to come down the gully for the stone dike construction.

LITS Monitoring and Troubleshooting in LGU T’boli

Project Officers Mr. Byron E. Delandrino and Kurt Jurgen Von D. Lumbao visited the Municipality of T’boli for the monitoring and troubleshooting of the Legislative Information Tracking System (LITS) on May 29, 2018.

The LITS was already installed during the visit on February 6, 2018. Since then, the staff using the system already encoded resolutions, ordinances and minutes to the system. As of the present date, the SB Secretary staff encoded around 150 ordinances ranging from years 1991 to 2017 and 221 resolutions from 2015 to 2017. However, some data can’t be searched through the LITS search tool. The project officers offered solutions such as: a) all attached JPEG files should be replaced with PDF format; b) to start completing the necessary data to draft entries for the features of the system to work. Lastly, to present the LITS and the accomplished encoded entries during the regular or special session of the Sanggunian.

RESOURCEGov Team Conducts Training for Maasim and Malapatan CSOs

RESOURCEGov Phase 2 Project Team conducted CSO Participation to Local Budget Process and CSO Desk Strengthening/CSO Accreditation Training for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Municipalities of Maasim and Malapatan, Saranggani Province on May 24-25, 2018 at Mt. Sabrina Panoramic View and Resort Incorporated, Tambler, General Santos City. It was joined by 57 participants (Male 36, Female 20) including the 4 team members.

This is the last leg of the series of two-day trainings to capacitate the CSOs to actively participate to the local budget process and the accreditation process. During the introduction, when Ms. Marie Nisa Suib introduced herself she raised a tag line of Malapatan like when she said “Malapatan” her co-participants from the municipality answered “Mapia Gid!” and same with Ms. Josephine Soledad, their tagline was Maasenso Maasim. Both municipalities are aware of the CSOs’ participation because almost of the CSOs are accredited and invited by Mahintana in Phase 1. Ms. Lala Lumatao, representative of the budget officer of LGU Maasim, inspired everyone to support the project. LGOO IV Mr. Ian Jon Clemente was the resource speaker for the Accreditation Process and Atty. Libertine Cagang discussed the Participation of CSOs to the Local Budget Process. In the course of discussion, questions were raised regarding the appropriation of the budget.

The CSOs were given time to convene and discuss about their next steps. Both CSO networks requested for Lakbay Aral as learning exchange between the two municipalities.

PTFK conducts Learning Package on Parent Education

Polomolok Task Force Kalusugan-Adolescent Reproductive Health Program in partnership with Dole Philippines and Local Government Unit through Mahintana Foundation, Inc. conducted Training of Trainers on Learning Package on Parent Education on Adolescent Health and Development to the ARH Advocates and Principals of the 10 partner public secondary high school on May 21-22, 2018 at CCT-Retreat and Training Center, Sitio Lao, Brgy. Nagpan, Malungon, Sarangani Province.

The two-day ToT was graced by the President and CEO of Mahintana Foundation, Inc. Mr. Martiniano L. Magdolot and three (3) resource speakers from the Provincial Population Commission namely, Ms. Melanie Chiva, Ms. Vanessa Pamplona and Ms. Crispy Arves. At the end of the training, the ARH Coordinators and Advocates submitted activity plan schedules of each school of the roll-out of the same training.

The ToT’s objectives are the following: to undertake parents’ education program on adolescent responsible sexuality; to provide age-appropriate, values laden and rights based (right to protection, development and participation) information, education and counseling services (at home, in-school, out-of-school, workplaces and other settings; to conduct training for youth on life skills and fertility awareness; to capacitate programs implementers and advocates as program partners; to equip the parents and educate them with the necessary knowledge on sexuality and other health related concerns of adolescents and skills on communicating such concerns to their children; and to highlight the role of parents as primary source of accurate and sound information on adolescent health and development including ASRH.

Mahintana Foundation Participates in 51st Asian Development Bank Annual Celebration

 Mahintana Foundation President and CEO, Martiniano L. Magdolot joined other Civil Society Organizations during the Asian Development Bank 51st Annual in Manila last May 2 to 4, 2018. Mr. Magdolot, being a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Peace & Equity Foundation (PEF), gave a talk on PEF’s social enterprise experience in addressing Philippine poverty in the forum for civil society organisations.

During the activity, Mr. Magdolot also joined the orientation meeting of South Cotabato Governor Daisy A. Fuentes and Ms. Jennifer C. Bretaña, Provincial Planning Coordinator with Ms. Brittany Lane, the Program Manager of Open Government Program (OGP) International. The South Cotabato was recently accepted into the Open Government Program, the only province in the country accepted into the international program this year.

 

Ceremonial Painting of Donated Classroom conducted at Landan Elementary School

 As the rain poured, the support of the Partner Donors and Cooperatives poured to the on-going construction of the building. The LEAD Trio Presidents and officers (LEAD Salaried, LEAD.PH and LEAD-Calumpang) together with DCO MPC, Polo SN MPC, FARB MPC, and UEWMPC were present to the bayanihan painting of the wall of the building on May 2, 2018 at Landan Elementary School. Furthermore, Barangay Captain Jerry Ante gave his thankful message for the continuous help to Landan Elementary School and Barangay Landan. This ceremonial activity was done to show the support of the partners to the school. The building will be turn-over to the school on the opening of classes this June 2018.

Mahintana Scholar Gives Back to the Foundation

Ms. Jenny Rose S. Tonio, one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship of Palo Para sa Bantay Gubat at Kalikasan, gave a Plaque of Appreciation to Mahintana Foundation, Inc. during its 3rd staff meeting on April 13, 2018. She is the daughter of Mr. Cawe M. Tonio, a Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Enforcer (MENRE)/ Bantay Gubat of Mt. Matutum and Mrs. Mercy S. Tonio, residents of Prk. 3 Kalyong, Brgy. Landan, Polomolok, South Cotabato.

 

She and her whole family came to give the plaque and gave their heartfelt messages of gratitude to the organization. Ms. Tonio said that the scholarship was an instrument for her to reach her dreams in life. She personally thanked Mr. Magdolot and Ms. Hora for the support and trust they had given her.

The scholar graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management from Holy Trinity College of General Santos City on March 28, 2018. She also rendered her on-the-job training in the Mahintana.
